Line-up for 30 April - Novus Ordo Third Sunday of Easter, Year A

Fr. Blake is away this week on a well-deserved vacation, and will not return in time for the Traditional Latin Mass that is usually offered as the 5pm Sunday Mass at the Basilica. Unable to find a priest both able and available to fill in with a TLM, he arranged for Fr. John O'Brien from St. Anthony of Padua Church to offer a "high" Novus Ordo Mass at that time. From the choir's perspective, however, little will be different. Here is the general music line-up:

  • Propers: Novus Ordo 3rd Sunday of Easter [PDF]
  • Mass Parts: Mass VIII – De Angelis
  • Hymn after Offertory: Concordi Laetitia [PDF Youtube]
  • Hymn after Communion: At the Lamb's High Feast We Sing -- Worship hymnal #512
  • Recessional: Antiphona ad Sancte Michael [PDF]
  • [Subject to change]
The main apparent difference is, of course, that we will sing an English hymn after Communion. Hidden within the propers sheet is, however, that instead of the Latin Gradual/Alleluia we will chant the Responsorial Psalm and Alleluia provided in the Pray Together missallette, pp. 102 and 104 respectively.

Good practice last night. Thank you all!

Line-up for 23 April, Low Sunday

  • Propers: Low Sunday [PDF]
  • Mass Parts: Mass VIII – De Angelis
  • Hymn after Offertory: Regina Caeli Jubila [PDF Youtube]
  • Hymn after Communion: O Filii et Filiae [PDF - Youtube]
  • Recessional: Antiphona ad Sancte Michael [PDF]
  • [Subject to change]
Practice tonight -- It will be short because of the Pastoral Council Meeting at 6pm. We will mainly run through Sunday's Propers.

I think everything went really well with the Triduum services as well as Easter Sunday's TLM. We'll post mortem them a bit, but I'm really pleased. Thank you all that you do -- and especially for pressing on so valiantly and pulling me out of my all-too-frequent mistakes!

Here's a copy of our quick photo Sunday evening of our new choir robes, courtesy of the Cathedral Choir at St. John Berchmann's in Shreveport. It being Easter, it's only part of our group. We will try to arrange a time when we can all be together at once for an "official" photograph. But I think we look pretty sharp!

Thanks!

I would like to express my sincere thanks to the members of the Schola who turned out for the Mass of the Lord's Supper last night and the Commemoration of the Lord's Passion this afternoon. At the risk of being prideful, I think we acquitted ourselves well. One more service in the 2017 Easter Triduum to go, the Easter Vigil tomorrow night, then the Easter TLM at 5pm on Sunday, followed by the Pot-Luck Social afterward. Thank you all, you are the best!

Line-Up for 16 April: Easter Sunday

  • Propers: Easter Sunday [PDF]
  • Mass Parts: Mass VIII – De Angelis
  • Hymn after Offertory: Regina Caeli [PDF Youtube]
  • Hymn after Communion: O Filii et Filiae [PDF - Youtube]
  • Recessional: Antiphona ad Sancte Michael [PDF]
  • [Subject to change]
PRACTICE TUESDAY 11 APRIL: This is the big one. We will practice at 5:30 pm – promptly. I want to jump right into Holy Thursday [PDF] and maybe Good Friday [PDF], although the latter is pretty simply and we may not get to it. Roxanne will probably be coming up for 6pm to practice the Easter Vigil Triple Alleluia with Fr. Blake on the organ, and the 9am Choir will be arriving shortly thereafter for us all to begin practicing the Easter Vigil [PDF] at 6:30. We probably will not get to go over our Easter Sunday TLM line-up at all, but frankly the chants are simple and the hymns are well-known, and we’re going back to Mass VIII, which we know pretty thoroughly.

Please – if you are going to be here Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and/or Easter Vigil – it is very important that you be here for this practice.

Line-up for 09 April: Palm Sunday

  • Propers: Palm Sunday [PDF]
  • Mass Parts: Mass XI Orbis Factor
  • Hymn after Offertory: Gloria, Laus [PDF Youtube]
  • Hymn after Communion: Stabat Mater [PDF - Youtube]
  • Recessional: Antiphona ad Sancte Michael [PDF]
  • [Subject to change]
PRACTICE TUESDAY 04 APRIL: This will be another big one. We will go over the above, plus the Triduum -- Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil. Unless something comes up, Roxanne will be there to go over the hymns, etc., for Easter Vigil. Again, we will likely be there longer than usual, but if you cannot come for the whole time, come for whatever time you can, arriving late, leaving early, whatever. These are vitally important practices!
