Line-up for 05 March: First Sunday of Lent

  • Propers: First Sunday of Lent [PDF]
  • Mass Parts: Mass XI Orbis Factor
  • Hymn after Offertory: Parce Domine [PDF - Youtube]
  • Hymn after Communion: Te Joseph Celebrent [PDF Youtube]
  • Recessional: Antiphona ad Sancte Michael [PDF]
Tuesday night (Mardi Gras) practice: We'll go over the above, as well as Ash Wednesday 06:30 Mass for whomever wants to show up that early the next morning and help out. [EDIT: Turns out we're also doing 6pm Mass, so anyone who wants to come to that instead, we'll assemble in the choir loft at about 5:45.) (Incidentally, I have changed the chant for Distribution of Ashes away from Psalm 50 Miserere nobis to Parce Domine as above; try as I might, I never could get that psalm down to my satisfaction, and Parce Domine is very much appropriately penitential!). Finally, next week's Second Sunday of Lent.

Line-up for 26 Feb: Quinquagesima Sunday

Practice Tuesday ... In addition to Quinquagesima Sunday, I'll have the First Sunday in Lent ... with its thirteen-verse Tract! Plus a new hymn for March, the Month of St. Joseph, and a new hymn for Lent.

I'd like to thank both Joseph Ligon, one of our Altar Servers from Shreveport, and Tommy Myrick for providing organ accompaniment this past Sunday, the 19th, during Vespers and Mass respectively. It's a rare treat.

Also thank you to all who came and to those who provided dishes for the Third-Sunday Social and Pot-Luck. It was great as always.

Line-Up for 12 Feb: Septuagessima Sunday

Good practice tonight ... Welcome to Arianna and Charles!

I'm going to post these line-ups weekly, maybe after practice, maybe before ... I'm not sure. This time, of course, it's after. It should automatically email to all who have set up their email at the top; if not, at least for a while I will share it to the Facebook page. Of course, "at left" and "at right" refer to links on the web page rather than on Facebook. Only occasionally will I post music to Facebook from here on out.

Anyway, for this coming Sunday:
  • Propers: Septuagessima at left.
  • Mass Parts (Kyrie, Sanctus, Agnus Dei): Mass XI Orbis Factor at far right.
  • Hymn after Communion: O Lux Beata Caelitum at near right.
  • Recessional: Antiphona ad Sancte Michael at near right.
Remember, the Gloria goes away until Easter, but we will continue using Credo III (far right) as always.

P.S.: Of course, circumstances may dictate changes to the published line-up, but hopefully those changes will be rare.

P.P.S.: Check out the "Links of Interest" above (on the web page). I have added some materials on reading Gregorian chant notation as well as pronouncing Latin.

Our new page

Hi all. I'm probably going to be using this page increasingly rather than Facebook to post information for our chant choir. I'm keeping the Facebook page, and may post a few things there, but most things will probably go here. One advantage is the non-reverse-chronological order that I can make many of the sections. As I'm planning it, I'm probably going to put links to the Mass Propers to the left, and hymns and Mass settings to the right. The middle column will be kept for announcements and other items.

At the top is a field to enter your email address to subscribe to this page, but I think it will only send you posts to the middle column, not new items I've added in any of the sections described above. You may want to bookmark this page and check it frequently.

That all might change. The format has already evolved pretty substantially from what I initially had in mind, and may continue to do so in ways I can't anticipate. We'll see.

Anyway, for now, look over to the right for Mass XI Orbis Factor, coming up starting Septuagessima Sunday and which we will use through Lent. Also on the right, the hymn for February, the month of the Holy Family (so, starting this next Sunday, 05 February). Finally, at left, the Propers for 12 February, Septuagessima Sunday.

Cheers!
