Line-up for SUN 31 DEC: SUNDAY WITHIN THE OCTAVE OF CHRISTMAS (and Daily Mass Feasts starting Tue 26 Dec)

Before getting to upcoming music, let me first thank all those who showed up back-to-back for Midnight Mass and 10am Christmas. Both went very well, I think; I was especially impressed with how good the Propers sounded with the organ and greater numbers. We and the 9am choir may have radically different musical tastes, but I think they are to be commended for stepping up and venturing into the wonderful world of the Church's rich treasury of Gregorian chant.

Practice as usual tomorrow night, 5:30pm Tuesday 26 December, mainly focusing on next Sunday, including the indulgenced Te Deum -- but before that there is 6:30am tomorrow morning, the Feast of St. Stephen the First Martyr [GDOC]. And the evening practice will include the 27th, St. John [GDOC], and the 28th, the Holy Innocents [GDOC]. However, in trying to nail down the correct Propers for the rest of the week, it seems that the Octave of Christmas is not of the same rank as the Octave of Easter. At this point I'm not even certain that those days -- Friday and Saturday -- which are not otherwise feasts, call for the Schola's appearance at 6:30 Mass. I will consult with the priests and plan accordingly. Whether those days are "chant days," the next Monday 01 January is -- the Octave Day of Christmas is also the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God [GDOC].

Final notes:
  1. As I mentioned, I'm giving us a break from the full Introits, at least for most Sundays.
  2. The Gloria is back each Sunday, for a few weeks at least (until Septuagesima).

LATE DECEMBER: Midnight Mass, Christmas Day, etc.

Upcoming practices and events:
  • TUE 19 DEC 5:30pm as usual: Practice with Roxanne, mainly Midnight Mass, but also a quick look at Christmas Day. Note that I have backed down the Propers for Christmas Day to the psalm-toned versions.
  • THU 21 DEC 6:30pm (if that changes I'll let you all know): Practice with the 09:00 choir. This is the BIG Midnight Mass practice. If you are planning to sing at Midnight Mass, PLEASE be there; if you can't be there, please let me know beforehand so that I will have an answer when asked.
  • SUN 24 DEC 11:15pm: Pre-Midnight Mass caroling begins. I'm sure we will discuss what time we need to be in the choir loft on Thursday night. My guess is, no later than 11pm. [line-up below]
